3rd Sunday Jazz Concert #3

The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation is Pleased to Sponsor this Free Community Concert Series!

Do you like jazz?
How about free jazz concerts?!

Local bassist, Brandon Meeks and his band performed the 3rd Sunday Jazz concert on Sunday, May 21st.

This was the third out of four monthly concerts in this series. It was a free, family-friendly concert that was held at Black Leaf Vegan Cafe. The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation sponsors free community concerts to make performing arts and jazz education more accessible. These have become important community events that carry out the IJF’s mission of promoting the future of jazz in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Featuring Local & Regional Musicians

Brandon plays with several musicians from Indianapolis, Chicago, and Louisville for this project. The IJF loves to support projects where local and regional artists collaborate. These free concerts make a meaningful impact on audiences and bring some of the best jazz around to our community! The May concert featured a talented quintet made up of the following musicians:

Brandon Meeks - upright bass

Jared Thompson - saxophone

Kendall Carter - piano

Josh Strange - vibraphone

Greg Artry - drums

Inspiring a New Generation of Jazz Music Lovers

Because the concerts are free and all ages are welcome, they’re very accessible to anyone in our community who wants to attend. Being a family man himself, Brandon’s group is excited about coming together to inspire people of all ages through music. There are many families with children who come to enjoy these concerts. It is a learning opportunity for children to listen to live jazz and see the performers interact with the audience.

Jazz has a way of touching the souls of those both young and old!

Attendance has been high at this event so if you want to attend, get there early so you can grab dinner and get a seat! The final concert of this series is on Sunday, June 18th.

Watch for these musicians to perform:

Brandon Meeks - upright bass

Rob Dixon - saxophone

Kendall Carter - piano

Josh Strange - vibraphone

Greg Artry - drums
